Arsenal Concern Grows as Noni Madueke Suffers Knee Injury During England Draw

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could be facing an injury setback after winger Noni Madueke was forced off during England’s draw with Uruguay at Wembley.

Madueke was handed a starting role on the right wing, getting the nod ahead of Jarrod Bowen, while Bukayo Saka remained out of action. The opportunity gave the young winger a chance to make an impression and he looked lively in the opening stages taking on defenders and creating problems down the flank.

However, his night took a worrying turn in the first half when he was caught heavily while attempting a shot. Although he initially tried to continue after receiving treatment, it soon became clear that the issue was more serious than first thought.

With around ten minutes left before the break, Madueke went down again and was unable to carry on. He was eventually substituted, with Bowen coming on in his place, while the injured winger left the pitch visibly frustrated.

Concerns increased after the match when Madueke was seen leaving the stadium with a brace on his left knee and walking with a noticeable limp. He is now expected to undergo further assessment to determine the extent of the injury.

The situation has also complicated matters for England head coach Thomas Tuchel, who is preparing his squad for the upcoming fixture against Japan. Several players had recently joined the camp after being rested, and decisions regarding squad selection were expected soon.

However, Madueke’s condition, along with concerns surrounding Phil Foden—who was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Ronald Araújo—has delayed those plans.

Speaking after the match, Tuchel admitted it was too early to make final decisions, noting that multiple players are still being evaluated for fitness. He suggested that a clearer picture of the squad would emerge closer to the Japan game.

Arsenal will now be anxiously awaiting updates, with the club hoping the injury is not as serious as it first appeared.
